Decisions that shape a home office

How you work
Laptop or multiple monitors, paper files or none, video calls or quiet focus. Each changes the desk size, depth and what goes on the wall behind you.
Desk layout
A straight run, an L-shape or a corner desk, depending on the room and how much surface you need.
Storage
Drawers and file storage under the desk, closed cabinets for supplies, open shelves for books and display.
Cables and equipment
Printers, routers and chargers need a home. Plan where cords run so they do not end up on the desk.
Sharing the room
If the office doubles as a guest room, plan the desk and a wall bed together so both work.

Design and installation

How a home office project works

  1. Consultation

Start with a free consultation in your home, or visit the Hanover Center showroom first to see displays and finishes in person.

  2. Measure and plan

The space is measured and the designer talks through what you need to store and how you use the room.

  3. Design together

You work through the layout with the designer and choose colors, finishes and accessories that suit the room.

  4. Built to your measurements

The system is made to the specifications of your design rather than pulled from a one-size-fits-all kit.

  5. Professional installation

The installation team fits the system in your home. Ask about scheduling and preparation during your consultation.

Home office questions

Can a home office also be a guest room?

Yes. A Murphy bed or credenza bed can share the room with a desk and storage. The Hanover Center showroom has a display that combines a Murphy bed with a desk, cabinets and shelving.

Do you build desks for two people?

Ask during your consultation. Shared offices are planned around how each person works, so mention screen setups, storage needs and whether you take calls at the same time.

Can you fit an office into a small room or nook?

Compact workspaces are common. A desk run with wall cabinets above can turn a corner, an alcove or part of a bedroom into a usable office.
